KEYNOTE SPEAKERs & Guests

Claudia Loebbecke is AIS past president and Professor of Business, Media and Technology Management and Director of the Department of Media and Technology Management at the University of Cologne, Germany. She was former president of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). She serves as Board member of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS), the Journal of Information Technology (JIT), the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) and the journal Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). Claudia received a Masters (1990) and a Ph.D. (1995) in Business Administration, both from the University of Cologne, Germany, and an MBA from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, U.S. (1991). She authored and co-authored acclaimed books and journal papers on IT, Technology management and innovation.

Dr. Deborah J. Armstrong is a professor of Management Information Systems in the Department of Business Analytics, Information Systems and Supply Chain at Florida State University’s College of Business. Her research interests cover a variety of issues at the intersection of IS personnel and cognition involving the human aspects of technology, change and learning. Her research has appeared in Management Information Systems Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems and Communications of the ACM, among others. Armstrong also serves as the co-editor in chief for The DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems.

Alan R. Dennis is Professor of Information Systems and holds the John T. Chambers Chair of Internet Systems in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He was named a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems in 2012. Professor Dennis has written more than 150 research papers, and has won numerous awards for his theoretical and applied research. His research focuses on four main themes: team collaboration; fake news on social media; cybersecurity; and artificial intelligence. He also has written books on data communications, networking, systems analysis and design. His research has been reported in the popular press almost 1000 times, including the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, USA Today, etc. He is the Past President of the Association for Information Systems.

Dr. Elena Karahanna is the L. Edmund Rast Professor of Business and UGA Distinguished Research Professor at the Terry College of Business, University of Georgia. Her research has been published in leading scholarly journals, including Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Academy of Management Review, and Organization Science, as well as in practitioner journals such as MIS Quarterly Executive, Cutter Benchmark Review, and Business Horizons. She is ranked 5th worldwide for publications in the MIS Quarterly in the past five years. She was named a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems in 2012 for outstanding contributions in research, teaching and service to the Information Systems discipline.

Arun Rai is permanent Regents’ Professor at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University and holds the J. Mack Robinson Chair of IT-Enabled Process Innovation and Supply Chains and the Harkins Chair of Information Systems.
Director and Co-founder, Robinson College of Business Center for Digital Innovation (CDIN) (previously named Center for Process Innovation), an interdisciplinary research center that focuses on digital innovation and promotes industry-university partnerships .
Served as Editor-in-Chief for the MIS Quarterly from 2016 to 2020. Has also served as Senior Editor for Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, and Journal of Strategic Information Systems and Associate Editor for journals such as Management Science.

Has been an active member of ACM SIGMIS since 2006. She has also had the opportunity to serve in leadership roles at a professional and institutional level. She recently served as the President for the SIG IS-Cognitive Research and co-chaired a successful search for a provost. Additionally, she served for six years as an Associate Dean for Research/Faculty Development and co-chaired the SIGMIS annual conference.

Michelle Carter is an associate professor in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University, Pullman, WA. She also holds the courtesy appointment of affiliate associate professor in the Information School at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Michelle earned her PhD in Management (Information Systems) from Clemson University, SC. Michelle has taught MIS courses at undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, in traditional and online environments. Her research focuses on how people engage with an increasingly digital world. Michelle’s specific interests include IT’s involvement in identity and social change, factors that shape IT use behaviors, and information systems management. Michelle’s work has been accepted for publication in MIS Quarterly, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems, etc. Michelle previously served as the President of the AIS Special Interest Group on Social Inclusion and chairs the AIS standing committee on Diversity & Inclusion. In 2016, Michelle was recognized for her research and service contributions to the IS field, as a recipient of the AIS Early Career Award.
